Loh Samah Bay, Koh Phi Phi Leh
It’s easy to see why the island chain of Phi Phi in the Andaman Sea has caught the eye of so many travellers and filmmakers over the years. Coastal landscapes this dramatic are simply bound to inspire. This is karst country; tree-covered limestone cliffs emerging from the clear blue waters. Add a longtail boat to the equation, and you’ve got the classic picture of Thailand’s scenery.
And it’s via longtail boat – or speedboat for those on a more demanding schedule – that Loh Samah Bay in Koh Phi Phi is accessible. This remote tropical bay, given an exclusive air by its boat-only access, provides some of the finest snorkelling opportunities in Asia. Goggle-up and look out for blue spotted sting rays, lionfish and moray eels.
Kenwood Travel’s Far East team were lucky enough to dive the area in December 2016, noting the ‘good visibility and calm conditions’.
